ELECTRIC BIKES - HYBRID & FOLDERS

Electric bikes have made giant leaps in performance in recent years due to lithium batteries and improved motor technologies. A premium quality electric bike will give you fantastic performance.
We're blessed with wonderful countryside in Derbyshire, but of course extremely hilly - an electric bike can transform your riding experience by making the hills actually very easy if you choose maximum assistance from the motor.
We have demonstrator bikes available and if you are thinking of buying we would encourage you to borrow a demonstrator for a day or two - take it home and make sure it does what you want it to. ( Sadly they aren't clever enough to mow the lawn or do the ironing.)

Most of our electric bikes are either powered by Bosch or Shimano systems. Shimano have only moved into the electric bike market in recent years. Their system is very efficient and reliable, but even they would probably admit that Bosch are still the industry leaders.

Bosch have a choice of 3 different motors and 3 different battery capacities...

MOTORS - either Active, Performance or Performance CX. Active gives the longest run time but Performance is noticeably more powerful up the Derbyshire hills, and Performance CX even more so.

BATTERIES - 300wh, 400wh or 500wh. If you are only doing short runs such as local shopping trips then a 300wh battery would be sufficient and would probably give you several journeys to a battery charge, but if you are doing longer, hilly runs in the countryside or need to do a long work commute then extra battery capacity is extremely useful and could make the difference between finishing the journey with battery power or having to pedal unassisted ( or maybe phone home for a lift ?)

The SHIMANO system has a battery capacity of 418wh and its motor is similar in performance to the mid-spec Bosch one.

Bosch and Shimano E-bikes are typically over £2000, which is considerably over some people's budget. As a cheaper, but excellent value-for-money brand, we are stocking WISPER bikes, which have an impressive build quality and style for their price.

For Derbyshire, with our big hills, we like powerful motors in our E-bikes !
Within Trek's hybrid range you will find 3 different motors -
The Verve +1 has the Bosch Active Line 40Nm motor.
This is Bosch's most commonly used motor, fitted to many different brands' bikes,
but for our hills, we strongly recommend you go for a more powerful motor than this...
In the Verve +2 and +3, you get the Bosch Performance Line Cruise 65Nm motor - this is noticeably better up the hills.
The Allant +5 and +7 are even better - you get the top-spec Performance CX 85Nm motor, as used in Trek mountain bikes !
